With the ever increasing range of New Technology on the market, from phones, smaller and smaller laptops and wireless offices to touch screen rental list displays in reception arrears, I would love to hear from people whose offices are embracing technology.

Give us your feedback on the products – which are hot and which are just not.

Hi Olivia, My husband has just got an I-phone (I know a little behind the times) but they are brilliant... for him anyway. They sync with Outlook, you get your emails direct to you where ever you are, which is great for him being in real estate sales and combining being a 'Mr Mom'. Saves him heaps of time in his day just to go to the office to check his emails. I personally will not get one as I can connect to the office from home via-terminal server and the last thing I want in 'my time out' with the kids is to be able to access my emails 24/7 from my mobile. If I see an email... I cannot help myself and have to respond. So technology is great - but having constant access to your business needs to be carefully managed to allow for a healthy work-life balance. Nav mans for getting around the streets is great to. You just enter the address and it tells you the quickest way to get there.

From a business development perspective, embracing technology is imperative!!

I use technology as a tool to increase my productivity:

- We have remote login access with our computers for all staff – from my laptop I can access my outlook and office files. Wherever I have internet, I have access to my files and emails. I choose to be in the office from 9am – 5pm – however I can continue my work in the convenience of my house with my family.
- I-Phone – a small miracle for the mobile person – I have an application called “Documents To Go” – I have all my word and excel documents on my phone, which I can edit, and email. My rental appraisals, management proposals, letter templates etc are all on my I-Phone. Regardless of where I am, I can send any documents as attachments via email.

This technology is not expensive. If you aren’t embracing change you may be stifling your growth.

We are currently getting testing done on a digital pen. What this does is you fill out a form Routine Insp. and at the end of the form you push the send button. 1/ you need a wap phone. 2/ bluetooth enabled. 3/ email address to send the info to. Then whislt you are doing the next insp. the office has recieved an email from you and the form is then checked and corrected and sent via email to th owner. Great tool for Open houses on the sales side to.
